As returning sponsors and attendees at the 2023 World Superyacht Awards, we are thrilled to be announced as the winner of the Displacement Motor Yacht, 500GT to 1499GT category with the Amels 60 superyacht COME TOGETHER.

As the first vessel in the Amels 60-metre semi-custom series built by Damen Yachting, COME TOGETHER features an exterior design by Espen Øino and her interior by Winch Design.

Delivered in 2022, COME TOGETHER was created from a detailed design brief that included the owner’s request for an interior perfect for entertaining and unwinding with family and friends. Winch Design met this with a relaxed and natural theme that gives a subtly masculine feel to its tactile and architectural form. BOAT International’s carefully selected panel of judges formed of 23 current and former yacht owners stated that they felt the interior style blended well with Espen Øino’s angular and geometric exterior.

Among other admirable layout features, the judges were taken by the yacht’s amazingly spacious sundeck, where the central portion features sliding-glass doors to prevent unpleasant wind that can spoil open-air gatherings. The yacht’s hybrid-propulsion technology was also admired, enabling COME TOGETHER to up anchor and slow cruise without starting the engines and disturbing guests. This, the judges concluded, was a well-conceived yacht and a deserved winner.

Marking the 18th edition of the event, the 2023 World Superyacht Awards was hosted by BOAT International in Istanbul, Turkey, at the Çırağan Palace Kempinski on 20 May. This prestigious annual event recognises the most notable superyachts from the past year in 19 categories.

COME TOGETHER wins her category at the 2023 World Superyacht Awards

On 15 May 2023, a substantial fire broke out at a Damen building hall in Antalya, Turkey. All those on the site were evacuated safely and no casualties have been reported. Thanks to the efforts of the Turkish emergency services, the fire was dealt with quickly.

The Damen building hall suffered a large amount of damage but did not contain any of the Damen Yachting projects currently in build. These projects remain unaffected. While all of our clients associated with the Antalya facility have been informed of the incident, our priorities lie in supporting and caring for our colleagues in Antalya.

The Mediterranean Yacht Broker Association (MYBA) and the International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA) are two well-recognised and respected organisations in the yachting industry. This year for the first time, IYBA and MYBA joined forces to host the first IYBA/MYBA Summit at the Monaco Yacht Club for more than 100 individuals from the industry’s brokerage community.

The two-day agenda educated guests on a variety of topics, including sustainability, shipyard contracts, cryptocurrency, professional standards, insurance, and the latest design trends.

As avid supporters of the brokerage community and proud sponsors of the event, the Damen Yachting team attended the Summit to meet with many brokers and answer their questions on the yard’s values and developments as part of the event’s Shipyard Speed Dating segment.

The Damen Yachting team visits Monaco to support the first annual IYBA/MYBA Summit for brokers

Damen Yachting and Blue World Technologies have signed a high-level strategic collaboration in the field of energy technology. This collaboration, which was made official at the end of April 2023, reflects Damen Yachting’s commitment to the research and implementation of more sustainable and future fuel technologies.

Located in Aalborg in Denmark, Blue World Technologies is a developer and manufacturer of high-temperature PEM fuel cells running on methanol. Their mission is to introduce energy-efficient and cost-effective methanol fuel cell technology to industries worldwide. The company has been working with Damen Yachting for a number of months as part of the Dutch superyacht builder’s energy programme.  A collaboration which Blue World Technologies’ Marine Sales Director Torben Mørch Sørensen believes brings tremendous opportunity to both parties.

“Damen Yachting is a very strong player within superyachts. We appreciate their trust in us and in our fuel cell technology, and we are very excited about this collaboration which provides both parties with valuable learning and knowledge in the path towards a greener maritime industry. Close collaboration between builders and suppliers, like ours, is essential to implement new and innovative technologies that eventually will benefit the climate and environment as well as the yacht Owners.”

When researching potential energy technology partners, it was Blue World Technologies’ products that played an influential role in Damen Yachting’s choice to team up with a company that would enable them to look longer term and to the upcoming generations of technology.  In particular their next generation fuel cell technology that offers higher efficiency with the additional potential for more energy efficient vessel operation overall thanks to the quality of recoverable heat. Furthermore, their focus on methanol is in line with Damen Yachting’s sustainability vision in reducing their carbon impact and the role methanol could play in that.

The Blue World Technologies team will be working closely with both Product Design Managers and Engineers at Damen Yachting towards implementing sustainable solutions in the Dutch yacht builder’s products and projects in line with the company’s sustainability goals.

The Xplorer 58 has successfully completed a series of sea trials ahead of her delivery later this Spring. Taking to the waters at the Damen Yachting SeaXplorer build location in Antalya, the SeaXplorer 58 PINK SHADOW will be the third yacht delivered from the Dutch yacht builder’s range of luxury explorer yachts.

The Xplorer 58 has successfully completed a series of sea trials ahead of her delivery later this Spring. Taking to the waters at the Damen Yachting SeaXplorer build location in Antalya, the SeaXplorer 58 PINK SHADOW will be the third yacht delivered from the Dutch yacht builder’s range of luxury explorer yachts.

The Xplorer 58, with her Ice Class hull for safe operations in polar waters and customised configuration, has been built and designed to meet the adventurous Owner’s globe-trotting lifestyle with family and friends to explore polar and tropical regions alike.

Damen Yachting’s Xplorer Design Manager Enrique Tintore: “We are very happy with how the sea trials are going and are looking forward to delivering this Xplorer to the Owner in the very near future. She performed and looked great sailing for first time and is certainly a head-turning yacht with her unique colour scheme and design features.”

Xplorer 58 nearing Completion

The sale of the third hull of the Amels 80 is a fact! Project Zurich is scheduled for delivery to her new Owner in 2026.

Jan van Hogerwou, Commercial Executive of Damen Yachting, worked with the client throughout the sales process. “It is almost a year to the date since we introduced the Amels 80. The fact that we have seen not only positive reactions to the design since the launch, but also a strong sales foothold within the first 12 months are a true testament to her modern design and trusted build pedigree. I am very much looking forward to embarking on the build journey with this experienced client.”

The yacht, with an exterior design by Espen Øino, will be customised with a number of spectacular unique features and the Owner has appointed a well-known design team for the custom interiors and all details remain confidential.
